These important glands are responsible for the oil layer of the tear film, which ensures that the tears do not evaporate too quickly. In addition to dryness, MGD is associated with symptoms such as eye redness, eye crust, blurry vision, or a scratchy sensation in the eye. This common condition is the result of oil gland blockages, which prevent the natural flow of oil that supports the tear film. If MGD is left untreated, the glands can become damaged permanently.
